Bylaws and Resolution
Committee
Time commitment: Approx. 14 hours/year
Volunteers will propose and review the Bylaws amendments and Resolutions per Association policies. You will also support the AAVSB’s mission, ensure compliance, and adhere to confidentiality and conduct policies. Furthermore, the Committee will provide recommendations to the Board of Directors and work with staff to manage amendments and Resolutions within timelines.
Conference
Committee
Time commitment: Approx. 42 hours/year
Volunteers will work with staff and the AAVSB Board of Directors in order to plan the Annual Delegate Assembly and Educational Meeting. Your responsibilities will also include supporting the AAVSB’s mission, adhering to policies, scheduling the meeting, coordinating logistics like locations and speakers, recommending hotels for approval, assisting with sponsorships, attending the meeting, and fulfilling on-site assignments.
Executive Director Advisory
Committee
Time commitment: Approx. 18 hours/year
This committee provides an avenue for Executive Directors and Registrars to use their expertise as Board administrators to advise the AAVSB staff and leadership on both contemporary regulatory topics and the programs and services provided by the AAVSB. Specifically, volunteers must be Executive Directors or Registrars of Member Boards in order to participate.
Finance
Committee
Time commitment: Approx. 36 hours/year
Volunteers will help the AAVSB Board of Directors fulfill its fiduciary duties by overseeing financial matters and ensuring compliance. You will also monitor income, expenditures, investment performance, recommend budget changes, review policies, safeguard assets, and oversee risk management. The Committee will also select auditors and attend meetings.
Leadership Development
Committee
Time commitment: Approx. 30 hours/year
Volunteers will be recruiting leaders, supporting the Nominating Committee, recommending leadership planning, suggesting policies for volunteer orientation, as well as, maintaining a volunteer database, and encouraging development. Additionally, the Committee supports the AAVSB’s mission, participates in meetings, and adheres to confidentiality and conduct policies.
PAVE® for Veterinarians
Committee
Time commitment: Approx. 80 hours/year
Volunteers will oversee the administration and enhancement of the education equivalence assessment for international veterinary graduates, review criteria, recommend policy changes, and ensure compliance. Your time will also be spent providing expertise for the Qualifying Science Examination (QSE), engaging with licensing jurisdictions, and advocating for the program with veterinary schools and the public.
RACE®
Committee
Time commitment: Approx. 50 hours/year
Volunteers will evaluate and assess continuing education Programs in veterinary medicine in order to ensure quality standards for public protection. The Committee provides recommendations on Program approvals and denials to the Board of Directors. While volunteering, you will review the RACE Standards and, when necessary, make recommendations on revisions.
Regulatory Policy
Committee
Time commitment: Approx. 54 hours/year
Volunteers will develop model language for the AAVSB Member Boards in order to update statutes, rules and regulations, promote standardization, and explore license mobility. You will also recommend updates to the AAVSB Practice Act Model (PAM) and create policies to help Member Boards protect the public and animals, while supporting the AAVSB’s mission and reporting to the Board of Directors.
Student Outreach
Task Force
Time commitment: Approx. 12 hours/year
Volunteers will be responsible for establishing a method of communication with students of veterinary medicine (veterinary students and veterinary technician/ technologist students) and promoting the role of the AAVSB and Member Boards in the life of their license. They will also have the opportunity to deliver in-person or virtual presentations to educate and engage students.
VTNE®
Committee
Time commitment: Approx. 80 hours/year
Volunteers will assist with the VTNE Program and with development the Veterinary Technician National Examination to ensure the exam assesses entry-level competency of veterinary technicians/technologists for regulatory board and other credentialing agencies. You will provide subject matter expertise in the development of the examination in online and in-person workshops and meetings.

Board of Directors
Time commitment: Approx. 150 hours/year
The AAVSB Board of Directors governs the Association and provides strategic direction. Directors support the mission, oversee financial health, and seek opportunities for innovation. Additionally, the Directors maintain effective communication with the membership and allied organizations, support the Chief Executive Officer, and ensure Board effectiveness.
Nominating Committee
Time commitment: Approx. 10 hours/year
Members of the Nominating Committee will review nominations and prepare ballots for the elected positions on the Board of Directors, Nominating Committee, and the AAVSB Representatives to the ICVA. Additionally, they provide communications to the membership on the nomination deadlines and the nominees.
Representatives to the ICVA Board of Directors
Time commitment: Approx. 68 hours/year
Representatives to the International Council for Veterinary Assessment (ICVA) must attend all ICVA meetings, while also supporting the AAVSB’s mission and purpose. Additionally, they are responsible for providing timely updates to the AAVSB Board of Directors about ICVA operations.
