Live Remote Proctoring

Live remote proctoring (LRP) allows you to take the VTNE in your home, but your computer and your test environment must meet specific requirements. It’s important to review these instructions on how LRP works before choosing this option.

  • Once we’ve approved your application to take the AAVSB, you’ll get an email with instructions on how to schedule your exam.
  • A live remote proctored exam can be scheduled almost any day at time, provided there are proctors available and it’s not a U.S. holiday.
  • Once you schedule an LRP test, you’ll get a confirmation from PSI Exams with further instructions and a link to the PSI testing portal.
  • You can reschedule as many times as you need if you’re within your exam authorization window AND at least 48 hours prior to your currently scheduled exam.
  • To reschedule, log into MyAAVSB, click Reschedule My Exam, and follow the instructions.
  • To switch from a scheduled in-person exam to a live remote proctored exam, log in to MyAAVSB, click Reschedule My Exam, and follow the instructions.
  • You must meet system requirements and verify with a system check.
  • Make sure you meet the requirements before choosing the LRP option.
  • As part of your exam confirmation, PSI will send you a link to a tutorial that includes a more intensive system check that you can perform three times.
  • Perform a final compatibility check 72 hours before your exam time.
  • If you’re having issues, see the troubleshooting and support section.
  • If your computer can’t support taking the LRP exam, you’ll l need to take the exam at a physical PSI location. Exams must be rescheduled 48 hours prior to the currently scheduled date.
  • Extended time is the only ADA exam accommodation that can be administered in a LRP exam. It must be approved in advance.
  • If you wear a religious head covering, you’ll need to notify PSI before scheduling your exam and request an accommodation to wear it while taking the exam.
  • Choose a testing area that’s private (not in a coffee shop, library, etc.), quiet, and free of distractions.
  • It’s best to log into your PSI portal at least 30 minutes before your scheduled start time.
  • The exam can’t be launched until 15 minutes before start time, and it won’t start until your proctor is online.
  • You’ll be asked to confirm the name of the exam you are taking and agree to the PSI and AAVSB-VTNE Examination Rules and Regulations agreement regarding exam confidentiality .
  • You’ll complete a system check of your computer’s microphone and camera.
  • You’ll be required to do a 360-degree scan of your testing environment and work area to make sure only allowable materials (mini whiteboard, dry erase marker, eraser) are visible. This may require you to lift your laptop or PC if your webcam isn’t detachable.
  • No other items, including common office items like binders, books, cell phones, phone chargers, sticky notes, plants, eyeglass cases, or food, are allowed.
  • Other people and pets aren’t permitted in your testing area.
  • You’ll be required to show a valid, government-issued ID with photo and signature on camera.
  • Total seat time for the exam is 180 minutes (three hours). The timer starts counting when your exam begins.
  • You can take a break at any time as long as you inform the proctor, but your timer will continue. Your exam is NOT paused during a break.
  • During a break, you can’t access personal items other than medication required at a specific time unless you receive prior permission.
  • If you’re using your work computer, notify your IT department to review any security and privacy settings/restrictions in place. You may need permission to adjust these settings to take your VTNE online.
  • Contact PSI Technical Support if you or your IT department have any questions about your compatibility test results.
  • If you’re using your personal computer, contact PSI Customer Service for technical support at 833-518-7459.
  • If you experience problems on exam day with LRP, you may be required to do an additional room scan and/or show your ID again.
  • PSI customer support may need to access your computer remotely to resolve technical issues.

If you decide LRP is the right mode of delivery for you, watch the video below, “What to Expect on Exam Day” for information regarding check-in, taking breaks, violations, and exiting your exam to receive your score report.
