About the Veterans Auto and Education Improvements Act
In January 2023, President Biden signed the Veterans Auto and Education Improvements Act into law. This legislation addresses professional licensing for military personnel and their spouses, ensuring greater mobility across state lines under specific conditions.
The Act mandates that state-issued professional licenses, excluding law licenses, must be recognized in other jurisdictions when military personnel or their spouses relocate due to military orders. This provision eliminates the need for additional licensure, simplifying transitions for military families.
Conditions for License Recognition
Per the Veterans Auto and Education Improvements Act, in order to qualify for this recognition:
- The license must remain in good standing with the issuing board and any other licensing body in the same profession.
- Licensees must comply with the relocation state’s practice act and regulations.
- They must submit to the jurisdiction of the relocation state board.
- Military personnel and their spouses must provide a copy of the military order to the state board. Their right to practice in the relocation state is limited to the duration of the military order.
